Heading Home
Sandy’s last performance was one of her very best! Though no doubt she will miss the amazing cast and volunteers and all the attention, Sandy is ready to retire and be a sweet loving companion to her new family. Sandy is scheduled to arrive in her new home on Saturday the 21st and from the updates received, they are anxious to get her home!
Adoption Applications Now Available
Sandy is now accepting applications for her forever home. Access more adoption information and an application HERE.
Bath time!
It’s almost time for this weeks performance and Sandy needed a little sprucing up so I decided she could use a bath. Since she’s not a “petite” girl, I decided to give her a bath the way I do my German Shepherds… Outside in the yard using the water hose. Lots more room than a bathtub (plus none of the mess!)
This is her first bath not done by a pro but I can tell you, she really enjoyed it! Getting all lathered up and scrubbed. I thought she was going to fall asleep on me there for a minute!
Afterwards, I don’t know if she was tired or relaxed but she soon settled in for an afternoon siesta.
Meet Sandy at Bark in the Park Austin
Itching to spend some quality time with Sandy and maybe even have your photo taken with the canine actress? Come by and visit Sandy at Bark in the Park Austin, July 17, at the Hillside Theatre in Zilker Park.
Bark in the Park Austin is a local event for dog lovers sponsored by HauteDog: Wet Nose Culture magazine – Come down early for Breakfast with the Beagles at 8:30, or join in later for shopping at vendor booths, a silent auction, panel discussions, and other fun activities. There’s even a Hairy PAWter story time for the kiddos.
Check out the Bark in the Park Austin website for more info.
Sandy as a Method Actor
In Saturday’s issue of the Austin American Statesman, writer Claire Canavan describes Sandy as a method actor – drawing from life experience to fuel performance. While Sandy is still an orphan at the moment, as the song says, she wont be for long.

There’s No Business Like Show Business…
Opening night came and went and I can’t express how proud I am of Sandy’s performance! Though we’ve had some challenges over the past weeks (those humans are hard to train you know!), overall she followed her cues and did what she was suppose to do. After the performance she went out on stage and met some of her newest fans.
One Week Until Opening Night!
Well, with all of the rain this week it’s been a bit hit and miss down at the hillside for rehearsals, but that has not deterred our furry performer. Rain or shine, she’s ready to go.
Make sure to mark your calendars – Annie opens Friday, July 9th, 8:30pm and the Zilker Hillside Theatre. Bring a blanket and picnic, and join Sandy for a wonderful evening of theatre under the Austin stars, then come on down to the front of the stage to meet the cast at the end of the show.
Please remember, while Sandy loves to make new friends, please leave your four legged companions at home this time, as they may be distracting for the cast and other audience members.
See you at the show!
Sandy Meets a New Friend
Today Sandy was introduced to a new friend! Sandy’s trainer also fosters dogs and puppies for Austin Dog Rescue and their newest little foster buddy, Gomer, finally met Sandy today. As you can see they got along wonderfully, and he and Sandy had a good game of tug!
First Rehearsal
Sunday was Sandy’s first rehearsal and opportunity to meet her Annie(s) and some of the cast members. I think it was love at first sight for everyone! For her first rehearsal Sandy did well, and I’m really proud of her! Being able to work with the actors has given us some new ideas and we’re very excited because for the next few weeks we’ll have several opportunities to hone Sandy’s skills and work on improving her performance.
As you can see in these photos Sandy received a lot of love, bonding and belly rubs with her new friends, Sarah and Jordan who are staring as Annie!
Dinner Time
Every day is a new adventure for this sweet dog and you never know what antic Sandy is going to do next. She is such a character and really has a personality that just won’t quit!
It was time for dinner and of course she’s always VERY excited when it comes to meal time. She was galloping around the room with pure joy and happiness so I told her to calm down, go sit and wait for her dinner. I guess she took me literally because the next thing I knew she was climbing up in the chair! I rushed to get my camera hoping I wouldn’t miss this shot and I didn’t! Granted, Sandy knows she must sit and wait until I’ve given her the OKAY! to eat, but I didn’t expect her to literally go sit in the chair! But she did and she stayed there watching me prepare her meal until I gave her the okay to go to her bowl!
(This is all a true story!)
